Damir Jakus, prof. Josip Vasilj, research assistant Joško Novaković, prof. Danijel Jolevski will participate at the ITISE 2026 and SpliTech 2026 conferences, where they will present several papers related to electricity markets, battery energy storage systems, renewable energy integration, photovoltaic systems and techno-economic optimization.

The presented research covers a broad spectrum of topics including electricity price forecasting using machine learning methods, participation of battery energy storage systems in European electricity markets, optimization of renewable-powered EV charging microgrids, synthesis of high-frequency photovoltaic power profiles for dispersed portfolios, and techno-economic assessment of residential PV profitability under Croatia’s evolving regulatory framework.

Grant agreement for the FLEXSYS project signed

On 4 February 2026, the grant agreement for the project Implementation of flexibility sources and advanced control algorithms to support modern power systems with a high share of renewable energy sources was officially signed.

The agreement was accepted by the project coordinator prof. dr. sc. Damir Jakus, together with members of the project team.

We are pleased to announce that our project FLEXSYS – Implementation of flexibility sources and advanced control algorithms to support modern power systems with a high share of renewable energy sources has successfully secured research funding. The project addresses key challenges in modern power systems and contributes to the transition toward a sustainable, low-carbon energy future.

Project Background

Global power systems are undergoing a profound transformation driven by the imperative of decarbonization and the transition to sustainable, low-carbon energy models. Renewable energy sources (RES)—particularly solar and wind power plants—have experienced significant growth in recent years. Together with hydropower, their share in global electricity generation has now exceeded 30%.
